Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a form of deep relaxation and inner focused concentration, in fact we enter this state naturally when we daydream, get drawn into a good book, film or in meditation! With hypnosis you are guided through the process so that positive suggestions can be made to your sub-conscious mind to help you change your mind-set of any unhelpful or unwanted feelings, thoughts or behaviour.

Am I aware of what is happening during hypnosis?

Yes! Always, you are just very relaxed, both mentally and physically, and so are able to accept positive suggestions more freely and openly.

Is it mind control?

No! You are always in control. I am simply a guide to help you seek out the unwanted thoughts and feelings buried in your sub-conscious mind and help you make positive changes to allow you to bring these positive changes to your conscious mind.

What does it feel like to be hypnotised?

Different people experience hypnosis in different ways. Some people feel tingling sensations in their bodies for example in their hands, arms and/or legs or a feeling of being light or heavy, some lose a concept of time and feel that time has passed more quickly or slower than it really has. Each person is different and each session can be experienced differently too. However, you will feel a great sense of physical and mental relaxation.

Can I be hypnotised?

The degree of trance is different for each individual, some enter a state of light trance and for other’s it is much deeper. If you allow yourself to be open to the treatment and follow my instructions without any resistance, you will experience hypnosis. Normally after just a few sessions the experience will become easier, as your mind knows what to expect allowing for deeper relaxation and a positive outcome. People with severe mental impairment cannot be hypnotised and very young children as they are unable to follow and concentrate on the instructions given.

How many treatment sessions will I need?

This varies from person to person and from an individual’s needs and issues. In accordance with the GHR my Code of Ethics and Conduct, I am committed to helping you as quickly as possible within the least amount of sessions that prove effective and show improvement to your quality of life. Most treatments in general, last from three to six sessions, so it is a good idea to budget for this, although some issues are resolved in fewer sessions and some may need more. I will always do my best to treat you in the least amount of sessions possible to the point of which you and I agree upon, that you have reached measurable resolution and are happy with your progress and results.

What benefits are to be gained from hypnotherapy?

You will learn ways and techniques to deal with your issue and each treatment is tailored for you so that you can be sure that you will be getting the best possible help that directs you towards achieving your goal and brings you nearer to a better quality of life and a stronger more confident person that you choose to be. The more you want this positive change for yourself, with help, the more benefit you will feel and achieve to reach your set goal! And because I also use other techniques such as NLP alongside hypnotherapy to complement this, you will have a range of tools which you will learn, that can then be applied to many other situations. Some people even find by the end of the treatment because of the positive effect of learning to think differently and practised techniques, other issues have also been overcome or have improved too! The benefits gained can start to feed into other areas of your ever day life and you can start to see and feel changes occurring in all aspects of who you are!

What is your success rate and do you make any guarantees?

In accordance with the GHR’s guidelines, I do not offer success rates or make guarantees, because success is subjective, it is difficult to define as one person’s version and opinion of success is different to another’s. As a client you must feel personally ready to make the changes you desire, rather than solely be relying on the therapist. The therapist is a facilitator to help, guide and use a number of techniques to aim you in the right direction towards your desired goal. As with any treatments there are no miracle cures but see hypnotherapy as an opportunity for you, to make a positive change and a shift towards a stronger, more confident and relaxed you so that you are able to deal with issues in a more productive and positive way!
